Bio

Corey Jackson also known by his stage name “Cocofuego” grew up on the Eastside of Detroit with his single mother and younger brother. He first noticed his talent of writing lyrics at the age of eleven when he wrote his first sixteen bar rap verse. Ever since then there was no holding him back. He kept his talent a secret for a few years from his family because he wrote lyrics that they wouldn’t approve of and it wasn’t until he wrote a Christian rap and performed at a church youth conference that everyone learned about his lyrical abilities and started supporting him to follow a career in music.

The church played a large influence in shaping his other musical talents, such as vocal training when he sang in the choir, and learning to count beats as he performed in a local step team known as “G-Phi-C,” who were at one point in time ranked as the number one step team in Michigan. These skills led to him developing an interest in music production and he taught himself how to create instrumental beats and melodies on programs such as cakewalk, fruityloops, and mixcraft.

Currently at the age of twenty-two he has accumulated a collection of over a hundred songs and he is writing more materiel every day. To further solidify himself as a respectable musician and producer he is currently enrolled in the music program founded by legendary guitarist John E. Lawrence at Washtenaw Community College. There he is learning how to efficiently play the guitar, the piano, and taking vocal lessons to add more range and control to his singing voice.
